Tuticorin District Administration in Tamil Nadu celebrated its Silver Jubilee with a Greenathon, organised by Le Divin Architects and Interior Designers, an environmental exercise involving 10,000 school and college students rallying 18.1 km from 8.00 am-11.00 am on Oct 19, 2012 The rally started from five different directions, 2,000 students from each direction, involving a total of 4,000 students cycling and 6,000 walking. The ‘Green Messengers’ carried go-green placards to form multiple human chains — 6,000 formed Indian flag, 2,000 formed Thoothukudi map and 2,000 made Tamil Nadu map. Each set of students wore green/ blue/ brown/ saffron/ white T-shirts & caps, with different green messages like Plant more trees, Conserve water, Save power, Say no to plastic bags, Think about global warming disaster, Go Green etc (sayings by E Jean Prabu Rayen). The event was organised in association with Builders Association of India –Tuticorin Centre.
