Batukbhai Vyas (b August 9, 1970) of Dharampur, Valsad, Gujarat has been making a Shivling rudraksha mala since 2000. The first year he made a 28 cm (11 in) mala and subsequently added more beads and also length every year. The mala was inaugurated in the presence of dignitaries and well-wishers on Shivratri of Feb 19, 2012. When measured, the mala was 15.54 m (51 ft) long. It was made using 20 lakh rudrakshas (beads) and 51.5 km thread. The work started on Nov 6, 2012 and completed on Feb 18, 2012. As many as 39 devotees worked for 21 days (8 hr per day) to prepare the mala while 24 devotees worked 15 days (8 hr per day) to wash, clean and oil the rudrakshas. The total time taken was 27,096 hr.
The Shivling was 9.52 m (31 ft 3 in) high and had a diameter of 10.21 m
(33 ft 6 in) at the base and 4.88 m (16 ft) above.
