On April 5, 2013, at the 14th Annual Convocation of the Indian Institute of Management, Indore (IIM-I), 14 differently-abled students were conferred degrees. This is the highest number in the history of IIMs. Many of them have been placed in top banking, consulting and FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) firms. IIM-Indore, established in 1996, is the sixth Indian Institute of Management after IIM-Kolkata (1961), Ahmedabad (1963), Bangalore (1972), Lucknow (1984) and Kozhikode (1996). The seventh IIM at Shillong was instituted in 2008.
IIM-Indore is the first IIM to have started operations outside India. A two-year full-time (residential) Post-graduate Programme in Management at Ras-al-Khaimah, UAE is being offered since 2011.
